Memorial Hall Hedge Area The committee of the Sutton Memorial Hall have for some time been concerned that the dead elm trees in the hedge between the playing field and the B1083 road might fall in to the road. A project to cut down these trees has started. All the dead trees, scrub and existing hedge will be removed. A new hedge will be planted about 1.5 m in from the road. This will leave a verge on the narrow length of the road where no verge currently exists. This will make it easier to maintain in the future. The 10m wide strip on the playing field between the new hedge and the football pitches, which originally contained dead elms and scrub will be sown with a wild flower mixture. The hedge will have a rabbit fence on the playing field side which will stop children and dogs reaching the road. Advice will be sought on the hedging species and the composition of the wild flower mix. Detailed costs of the project have not yet been finalised but it is likely to be in the region of £3,000. Grants and sponsors are being sought and any donations will be welcome. |
